The first time in the gym… Day 5

I am nearly 100% fit again and today I felt like going to the gym, so I did a bit of work this morning and then headed off. Now I tend to be a bit of an extremist in most things in life, and from past experience know that I usually try to do FAR too much, FAR too soon. This usually results in me paying the price by becoming so stiff and sore that I can hardly get out of bed or easily walk up or down the stairs at home. So on this occasion I was going to take it REALLY steady as I can start picking up the pace a little when I have done a few breaking in sections.

I started my light workout on the cycling machine and did 10 minutes of gently warm up ready for the cross trainer. In the past I became very proficient with the cross trainer and could do 45 – 60 minuets at a good pace and have burned off as many as 1,000 calories which has been the best way for me to measure and monitor my progress.

Today I just took it really slow and steady and did another 10 minutes which I felt was enough for a big unfit man for the first day. I felt I had earned a little sauna time followed by the Jacuzzi so that’s were I headed next. Now this was not my usual time for visiting the health club so most of the people I meet were unfamiliar to me.

As I walked into the spa pool Jacuzzi a lady greeted me with a really big smile and asked me a question that made the sun shine on the inside of my mind, and my day become extra special…

‘Did you used to be a ‘Body Builder’ she asked?’

Now I know I am going to get some great results from working out in the gym, but I really didn’t expect anyone to notice until I had lost a ton more weight and sweated a little more. Now some people may think she was just being sarcastic, but she was an original person and her comment was original. Her chance comment was also very motivating encouragement to me, I hope that I meet her again soon as she might pay me other enjoyable complements.

A really great start today just got to capitalise upon my effort by keeping it up on a regular basis.
