Success, I have lost weight… Day 21

Success, I have lost weight!

Last Thursday night, the 23rd of October I was weighed in to discover I had lost 5½ lbs which means I now weight 342½ lbs and still have a long journey ahead of me. So to answer you next question, I am both happy and a little disappointed by my result at the very same time. Happy that my weight is going down, but disappointed that I DIDN’T lose a LOT more!

I sort of hoped I would have lost 10lb or 12lb or even more, but it didn’t happen so I have to ask myself why. Then when I thought it through I remembered that I ironically had a very sore throat the first week that I started living my new healthy lifestyle, and had eaten many packets of extra strong mints to sooth my throat, as well as sipping away a whole bottle of whiskey. So perhaps my first week shouldn’t be counted!
If I look at the weight lose from this perspective I have lost 3lb a week, the exact amount upon which I had aimed my sights on losing and that makes me feel a lot more successful.

Although a little disappointed I have to admit that I have deliberately started slowly and cautiously over the last couple of week for two reasons:

  • First: I wanted my new healthy lifestyle to be sustainable and something I started gradually and picked up the pace of as I progressed. In this I Have been successful as I haven’t yet given myself any pain at the gym, and neither have I felt hungry at all.
  • Second: I would rather be a poor starter and GREAT finisher than have it the other way around and be a great started and lose momentum until I slowed down and stopped completely.
    The resulting action…

After the Thursday night weight in I conducted a short mental post mortem. I decided it was time to pick up the pace at the gym. So I took up the duration of my exercise by approximately 50% to around twenty minutes, and put more energy into it also. The following morning, from the stiffness in my calf muscles I could tell I had been pushing myself MUCH harder. This is how it will be small step ups in the pace as and when I am ready, rather than the risk of pain and injury which is what I am trying to avoid. By doing this I hope and in fact am sure that my progress will be

My curried parsnip soup is a success…

I have had lots of people send me messages saying they have tried the curry soup and enjoyed it. That’s great, but rather than a personal message it would be more helpful for the blog and readers if you made a comment for everyone to see.

Progress:

Food and nutrition…

Okay and I have now started to keep a daily diary of what I eat and drink which will be updated in real time on the blog. This will act as my food diary and be automatically collated at the start of every week.

Fitness…

I have a challenge as I carelessly managed to kick off one of my toenails at the gym last night. It was a little sore when I did it, but in bed it REALLY started to hurt and this morning it is THROBING! Not quite sure what to do about it right now other than see if it improves.

Mindset…

More determined than ever to succeed!
